Here are some recent case studies that show the variety of work that JB Sound undertakes over the course of a year.
Client: Pizza Express
Location: Pizza Express, Birmingham
We supplied sound and lighting systems for two performances from Will Young and his band at this pop-up music venue in Birmingham.
L-Acoustic Arcs Wide were used as the main FOH system with SB18m plus 12XT as side and rear fills. The mixing desk was a DiGiCo S21 with D-Rack. Neumann KMS105 for lead vocals, M88 for saxophone, DPA 4099P and 4099B for piano and bass respectively, Aston Origin for overheads.
Location: UK Tour 2016
JBS took on tour management duties for this fantastic tour of UK theatres with Graham Swann’s Great British Spin Off, featuring the legendary Henry Blofeld.
We carried amongst other things a set of head-worn Sennheiser radio microphones, a projector with screen for graphics and video along with Cat-5 for long video cable runs.
Client: Tony Momrelle
Location: UK Tour 2016
JBS joined Tony Momrelle and his band when they supported Earth, Wind & Fire at London’s O2 Arena, Bournemouth BIC and Liverpool Echo Arena. We supplied a full onstage provision along with monitor console, wireless IEM, FOH console, engineers and crew.
Client: Sway / One For The Boys
Location: Abbey Road Studios
Once again JBS were proud to provide an audio package, engineers and crew for this charity event for Samuel L Jackson and One For The Boys at Abbey Road Studio.
A large L-Acoustics PA system was provided along with a full onstage provision and radio equipment, so that various celebrities could join Sway on stage for live band karaoke.
Client: ebp & Joe Stilgoe
Location: UK Tour 2016-2017
JB Sound tour managed and provided equipment for the UK tour of Joe Stilgoe’s show Songs On Film.
The majority of the tour saw Joe and his band perform as a trio but for three special Christmas shows at the Lyric, Hammersmith this was augmented to a big band, and to a full orchestra at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall on New Year’s Eve.
Client: Pizza Express
Location: Pizza Express Strand, London
JBS supplied lighting, staging and audio support with a team of engineers and crew for four intimate shows featuring Pixie Lott and her band, with support from London Red.
We transformed the Strand restaurant into a stunning music venue with discreet wirelessly controlled DMX uplighting, pipe & drape blackout and acoustic screening, and a queue barrier system. A Meyer Sound distributed audio system was used so that every seat enjoyed excellent sound, and a mixture of LED washes, conventional profiles, vintage fresnels and Sunstrips created an exciting stage setting.
We also ate a lot of pizza.
Client: Silken Strings
Location: The Salle des Etoiles, Monte Carlo
JBS accompanied electric string trio Silken Strings to production manage and engineer their performances at a large corporate event in Monte Carlo.
The trio performed three sets of music in two locations - the drinks reception and the main concert hall. Each performance utilised Sennheiser G3 IEM and instrument belt pack systems for electric violin, viola and cello, with L-Acoustics wedge monitoring (reception) and flown ARCS (concert) as backups.
It is important that our engineers and personnel work seamlessly with local crews, to ensure the event runs flawlessly. Tres bien!
Client: Cahoots Theatre Company
Location: The Edinburgh Fringe Festival & UK Tour 2015
JBS accompanied comedian and impressionist Simon Cartwright for his debut at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Stage management, audio and lighting support as well as logistics were provided for the rehearsal and preview period, followed by daily shows throughout the month-long Edinburgh Fringe and the ensuing UK autumn tour.
The performances utilised Shure wireless systems with dual MKE2 Gold microphones. Audio and visual playback were handled using (figure 53) Qlab software on MacBook Pro’s.
Client: Joe Stilgoe & ebp
Location: UK Autumn Tour 2015
JBS tour managed and engineered for Joe Stilgoe and his band on their UK autumn tour.
For each date we provided audio and lighting support, logistics and stage management. The trio enjoyed a four way EAW monitor mix, Neumann and DPA microphones, Yamaha control, dB Technologies DVA and Meyer UPA / USW front of house systems.
The shows all received rave reviews and we look forward to another tour in the autumn of 2016!
Client: The Redstone Collective
Location: Portchester Hall, London
JBS accompanied The Redstone Collective for their performances at the 70th birthday celebrations of David Gilmour at Portchester Hall.
A front of house PA system and lighting were already in place for the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, so we provided a full onstage compliment for the excellent jazz quartet. A Shure Super 55 was used for the lead vocalist, in keeping with the vintage theme of the event. Every effort was made to minimise visibility of modern technology!
